Varying environment parameters destroys the habitats of species. We are going to discuss species that are in danger of extinction in United States. List of endangered species in the US increasing due to several main reasons. Illegal hunting and industrialization are the main causes that effect the population of species. Black Right Whale
Eubalaena glacialis is the scientific name belongs to Mammalia class and Balaenidae family. About three generations ago there was a huge decline occur in their population. Now there are only 250 black right whale remaining on our planet. A subpopulation is Eastern North Atlantic have about 50 mature individuals.
Due to a small population they were listed as endangered. If we consider subpopulation as separate then we can say these are critically endangered species.
They eat invertebrates to live on earth. Maximum length is about 65 ft. They have weight about 100 short tons. Collision of ships and more deaths are main threats for black right whale.
Black footed ferret – Most Endangered Species in The US
They were considered as extinct in the wild but recently due to the efforts of United States fish and wildlife service they are introduced in about 8 states of United States. Mustela nigripes is the scientific name belongs to Mammalia class and Mustelidae family. They are most active in night than day or live in underground.

They mate mostly in March and April and gestation period is about 42 days. Only females are responsible for new born kits because they are helpless. Adult black footed ferrets are about 18 to 24 inch long and weighted up to 1.5 to 2.5 pounds. Conversion of grasslands into agriculture uses causes loss of habitat for black footed ferret. They become most endangered species due to habitat loss.
Balaenoptera physalus is the scientific name belongs to Mammalia class and Balaenopteridae family. The main cause of reduction in population of common is commercial whaling. About 70% population has been declined from 129 to 2007 and population decreasing is continuous. There is no appropriate step make for conservation of this endangered species.
They are 75 to 85ft long and weight is about 40 to 80 tons. They can live 80 to 90 years. They like to live in groups. Each group contain about 4 to 7 individuals. Their gestation period is about 11 to 12 months. Fin whale diet consists of small schooling fish, squid, copepods and krill.
Giant kangaroo rat
Facing a lot of threats including pollution, urbanization, industrialization and agriculture uses. They loss their habitat when conflict with humans. Due to decreasing population trend they are listed as endangered species in the US.
They are about 15 cm in length not including tail. Length may be different because their tail can 12 cm in length. They can heavy up to 128g. They mate with neighboring females during summer. Their gestation period could be 30 days. They can live around 2 to 5 years.
Hawaiian monk seal
Monachus schauinslandi is the scientific name belongs to Mammalia class and Phocidae family. There are only 632 individuals are living on earth. Their native country is United States. Hawaiian monk seal is an endangered species in United States due to population trend is decreasing. In 1983 there are 1520 individuals, in 2011 there are only 1,209 monk seal were remaining.
Male monk seal are aggressive in nature. They mate with females in water. Gestation period could be about 10 to 11 months. Fishes cephalopods and crustaceans are used as diet. They can 7 to 8 feet long and 170 to 205 kg heavy.
Food limitations due to oceanographic conditions is the major threat for these monk seals.
Idaho Ground Squirrel
Urocitellus brunneus is the scientific name listed as endangered species due to decreasing population trend. They are about 8 to 9 inches long and little bit smaller than other squirrels. Their food including green vegetation and seeds. Spring season is their mating season. Gestation period is about 50 to 52 days.
Listed as endangered species in IUCN red list. Their population trend is decreasing and there is nothing to be done for the conservation of this animal. This belongs to Mammalia class and Cervidae family. They are around 30 to 38 cm in length and weight is about 30 to 50 kg. Males have average 43kg and females have 32kg weight.
Hunting habitat loss and degradation make them endangered species in the US. In 2013 a plan was made for the protection for them. These are also shifted to protected areas where they can live without any danger of poaching.
