Kashmir Muskdeer

Moschus cupreus is scientific name belongs to Mammalia class and Moschidae family. They are 2 to 3.5 in length. Shoulder length is about 20 to 28 inch. Their mass can be 15 to 37 lbs. Their diet include leaves, shrubs, grasses, lichens, shoots and twigs. Their area of occupancy are meadows, fell fields and shrub lands. Considered in the list of endangered animal species in Pakistan.

There population trend is decreasing due to illegal hunting and trade of their body parts on high scale. No conservation steps taken to improve their protection. Due to increasing effects of threats they were listed as endangered species in Pakistan in 2008.

Woolly Flying Squirrel

Eupetaurus cinereus is the scientific name belongs to Mammalia class and Sciuridae family. They mostly found in upper Neelum valley in Azad Kashmir. They feed on pine needles. Their upper elevation limit is 3800 meter and lower elevation limit is 2400meters. Before 1994 there were no sign of this species. Due to data deficient they considered as endangered species around the world especially in Pakistan.

Habitat loss, expansion of agriculture and small scale logging are the major threats that decline population for this species. There is no exact information about their population trend. They are listed as endangered species in Pakistan in 1996. Cutting of forests is also considered as main threat.

Black-bellied Tern

Sterna acuticauda is scientific name belongs to Aves class and Laridae family. They found mostly in rivers, marshes, small pools and ditches. They can 13 to 14 inch in length. They are endangered bird species in Pakistan due to decline in population. There area of occupancy also declining continuously. There is a danger about them. They may be completely extinct in coming years.

There population trend is decreasing and there is no idea about their subpopulations. Destruction of breeding habitat, overfishing and over harvesting are the major threats that make them endangered species in Pakistan. Education and awareness are used as conservation steps to save these species.

Egyptian Vulture

Neophron percnopterus is scientific name belongs to Aves class and Accipitridae family. They can be 1.7 to 1.8ft in length. Weight can be 3.5 to 5.3lbs. They mostly feed on dead birds, small mammals and large wild animals. They can live up to 37 years. Classified as endangered species in Pakistan due to decline in population from last three generations. One generation is about 14 years.

Lead poisoning, direct poisoning, collision with wind turbines, habitat change and reduction of food availability are the major threats that decline the population of this species. Only 13000 to 41000 individuals are remaining. There are only 2 to 100 subpopulations on our planet. Listed as endangered species in Pakistan in 2007 as per information of IUCN red list. Still they are endangered due to lack of interest of conservationists with protection of this species.
